The aviation career in the life of Rui Castro e Quadros took off in 1995. Starting in sales at Iberia Airlines, his career has moved upwards to a general manager position at Portugal Airlines and after that to a new position as a board member in the SATA group in the Azores. All this airline and airport experience has served him well and Rui decided to embark on a teaching career path. Now, the instructor is working in the consultation area and teaching at the university.

Rui reached the biggest and greatest achievement during his whole career in aviation when he worked for Portugal Airlines. Due to severe cost cuts in the company, Rui’s team was very small, and with just two people in sales, they had to manage seven daily flights with 700 daily seats to sell and 7000 travel agents to work with. Despite strong competition from other airlines, in 2005, they were awarded for being the company that grew the most. Rui was very proud of this award and as he said, this was a trophy for his life.

As for his teaching career, Rui started in 2007. He said that there was no such thing as aviation management classes in Portugal, so he felt a need for that. Fortunately, the university invited him to teach an aviation management course and he accepted it. Although, as he said, in every position he ended up giving sales talks and training his sales teams, it was still a big change in his career. However, throughout the years his teaching career has also evolved and expanded significantly and today Rui not only has aviation management but also transport and tourism courses.

Of course, e-learning is the future and Aeroclass is part of it. So, when asked about his course on our platform, Rui said that his vast experience in sales and leadership led him to design it. He shows the main areas to focus on in order to sell more efficiently. He said that to be a good salesperson you must focus not only on sales but also you must understand the industry. He has put all his experience and much more into his course at Aeroclass.

Obviously, Rui tells us a lot more in our Expert Talk. So don’t miss out on the chance to learn more about his course and airline sales overall.
