Course description
The environment is one of the most critical global issues of our time - and aviation is at the center of that conversation. As the industry grows, it must balance operational needs with sustainability goals, driving innovation to reduce its environmental footprint.
This course provides an overview of the main environmental challenges aviation faces today, such as emissions, noise, and resource management, alongside the most promising initiatives shaping a sustainable future - including sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), electric and hybrid aircraft, and net-zero strategies.
Participants will gain a clear understanding of how airlines, airports, and regulators are working toward a greener future, while exploring how these solutions can inspire change within their own organizations.

Meet your instructor
Anil Padhra
Dr Anil Padhra is an academic and aviation professional. He is an Associate Professor in Sustainable Aviation at the University of West London, UK, a Senior Researcher at the Whittle Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK and a Visiting Associate Professor at the Kazimiero Simonavicius University in Lithuania. Dr Padhra has previously worked in air traffic management at NATS, in airline operations research at easyJet and in flight operations engineering at British Airways.
He is a member of the advisory team at the United Nations World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) on the impacts of climate variability on aviation. Since 2014 he has been a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society in the UK.
