Wildlife Hazard Management at Airports

Wildlife strikes remain one of the most significant operational hazards affecting airport safety, with the potential to cause aircraft damage, operational disruptions, and serious safety consequences. Effective Wildlife Hazard Management requires a proactive, systematic approach that integrates regulatory compliance, risk assessment, habitat management, and stakeholder coordination.

This training provides a structured understanding of the principles, regulatory requirements, and practical implementation of Wildlife Hazard Management at airports. Participants will explore ICAO Annex 14 and Doc 9137 guidance, the role of Wildlife Hazard Management Plans (WHMPs), and the integration of wildlife risk management into aerodrome certification, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and State Safety Programmes (SSP).

The class also examines the responsibilities of airport stakeholders, the function of Airport Wildlife Management Committees, wildlife strike reporting systems, and the application of active and passive wildlife control techniques. Participants will gain the knowledge needed to support regulatory oversight, evaluate wildlife management programmes, and contribute to safer airport operations.

By the end of this class, participants will be equipped to:
