Course description
Interviewing individuals involved in or witnessing a safety event is one of the most critical stages of any safety investigation. The quality of information collected during these interviews can directly influence the accuracy of findings, the effectiveness of corrective actions, and the overall value of the investigation process.
This course provides practical tools and methods for conducting structured and unbiased investigation interviews. Participants will learn how to prepare for interviews, frame effective questions, avoid common pitfalls, and evaluate the credibility and accuracy of information. The training emphasizes the importance of empathy, neutrality, and professionalism in building trust with interviewees and ensuring reliable outcomes.
Through case examples and guided exercises, participants will gain the confidence to integrate interview findings into comprehensive event analyses and safety reports.
Participants enrolled to this class will get access to the Safety Investigation Report Writing course 14 days before class starts and it is strongly recommended they complete it before Day 1 of this course.

A well-conducted interview can be the difference between discovering the true cause of an event and missing critical safety lessons. Understanding how to communicate effectively with those involved in incidents requires a balance of technical skill, emotional intelligence, and investigative discipline.
This training will help you refine your interviewing technique, reduce biases, and extract the most accurate and useful information from witnesses and participants. By mastering these skills, you’ll improve the quality and reliability of your organization’s safety investigations and contribute to a stronger safety culture.
