Winstone Gicheru

Winstone Gicheru began his career as a meteorologist in 1991. He flourished in his career rising to chief aviation forecaster at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. In mid-2010 he became Kenya’s first Chief Aeronautical Meteorological Inspector to set up and develop Aviation MET regulatory system in Kenya. He is a member of the ICAO Meteorology Panel (METP). He chaired AFI OPMET Management Task Force and a member of AFI MET subgroup.

He is a certified aviation safety trainer with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He developed and has been delivering ANS MET Inspector courses at East African School of Aviation. He also developed and delivered MET Inspectors’ Course for COSCAP South Asia in 2021, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) delivered at ATOM premises in Dubai in November 2023 Winstone has been extensively involved in the development and implementation of Kenya Aviation Action Plan on CO2 gas reduction. He has actively participated in the high-level ICAO and UNFCCC environmental meetings/seminar and workshops both as participant and presenter.

He has extensive knowledge and experience in meteorology, Air Navigation and Met Oversight, Aviation and Environmental and Climate Change. One of ACT-CORSIA trainers training Uganda, Seychelles, Rwanda and southern Sudan. He has developed the Civil Aviation (Meteorological Service for Air Navigation) Regulations 2024 and Civil Aviation (CORSIA)Regulations 2024 and many guidance materials.

Winstone holds a Master of Science degree in Meteorology from university of Nairobi He also holds several instructional certificates including Advanced Instructors Training, Training Developers course and the On-Job Training course.
